Reaccreditation – The reaccreditation process has been successfully completed in spring of 2008. In the course of this reaccreditation process, conceptual changes, such as the expansion of entrance requirements, the update of programme contents, the improvement of practice-orientation and the facilitation of stays studying abroad, have been made. These changes are effectively being implemented since the winter semester of 2008/09.

The current accreditation is valid until 2013.

Studying Health Care Management at Fulda University of Applied Sciences prepares students with various health care-related professional backgrounds for their future active role in health care management. Building on the students’ respective already existing professional competencies, the necessary additional knowledge and qualifications are imparted by means of this programme of study. Interdisciplinary cooperation and interaction are facilitated due to the diverse composition of the student body. Common professional backgrounds of students upon entry are those of medical secretary, physiotherapist, nurses, social insurance clerks and health care merchants.

Besides the study of business economics, students are introduced to the systematic, evidence-based approach of conceptual design, implementation and evaluation of health care related projects in the field of health care management and health promotion. In the process of developing new concepts, students learn to not only take the individual– but more importantly the population-based perspective into account.

Throughout this programme, students will develop and strengthen several core competencies:

• The ability to cooperate, coordinate and communicate
• A broad knowledge base of interdisciplinary health sciences
• The ability to correctly and pragmatically apply research methods
• Methodical and project-oriented action
• The ability to think and act economically
• The ability to design health promoting operating processes and to responsibly manage personnel

Several modules of this degree programme are taught in close cooperation with the nursing management programme, as certain topics and course contents are similar if not identical for both pathways. However, the student groups are instructed separately in the subject-specific modules.

The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences allocates altogether forty university places, with courses starting in autumn (winter semester) of each year. Studying a semester abroad is also a possibility.
