Laboratories and computer rooms

How do I get an account for the university computers?

Attention: there are two different accounts: one for the computers in the Novell-Network covering the whole university, and one for the Unix-processor in our faculty.

1.  Novell: Access to the Novell-network is handled by the DVZ in Room E327. Proof of study (Studienbescheinigung) must be given. Forms are in front of the DVZ. Once the form has been completed, you will receive a username and password. It is then possible to use the PCs in the labs and all the networked computers in the AI faculty.

 2. Unix: C002/C003 (SW-Laboratory III), C004/C005 (CAE-Laboratory)

Access to the Unix-network is dealt with by Mr Lohmann in Room C007. It is not necessary to fill out a form, but proof of studying must be shown. You should already have a Novell-account before setting up a Unix one, as the username will be the same. Once the Unix-account has been setup, you will receive a password. This should be changed as soon as possible. Instructions are provided on the information sheet given when the account is setup.

What rules exist in the laboratories?
To begin with, the rules governing other rooms in the university are also to be applied within the laboratories. On top of that, the following points are to be noted:

  • Only to be used for research and work related to studies.
  • Special level of cleanliness in the laboratories! That means no food and no drink.
  • Do not install any software
  • Do not do anything that damages copyright protection
(e.g. pirate copies of texts, music, software,…)
  • Do not disturb others (e.g. through Web-Radio)

These rules are also on display in the laboratories.

Which drives can I use?
Home drive:
Every student has a home drive on their Novell-account (H:), which can be used to save data from lectures, classes and emails. In order to ensure that emails get through, you should regularly ensure that there is enough free space on your home drive. Only you can read and edit files on this drive.

Drive O:
The O: drive contains some files from professors and teachers. Students can access and read the files.

A detailled description for external access to the home drive an the O:drive can be found here.

Email-Account

What is my email address at the university?
The E-Mail account is setup together with the registration to the Novell-network.
The address is generally: Firstname.Surname@bitte-loeschen.informatik.hs-fulda.de

How can I check my emails?
You can access, write and send your emails in the software laboratories I and II and in the DVZ computer pools. The mail software is already installed on the network.

Do check your emails from elsewhere, then use the following information

  • Webmailer: webmail.hs-fulda.de
  • Sending of mails (SMTP): smtp.hs-fulda.de
  • Access via IMAP: mail.hs-fulda.de
  • Access via POP3: mail.hs-fulda.de

The username is your fd-nummer and the password is the same password you use for the computers in the computer labs.

Lesson plans and registration for courses

Where can I find the up-to-date lesson plan?
The up-to-date lesson plans can be found in System2Teach under „Personal Office - Stundenplan“. They are also displayed on the ground floor of Building C.

Changes to plans will be displayed in both System2Teach and Building C.

How do I sign up for courses?
Most course lists are administered on System2Teach. If a class is part of your personal lesson plan then you will automatically be signed up for the course. If you delete the class from your personal lesson plan, then your name will be deleted from the course list.

Occasionally professors wish to make their own course lists. These often have precedence over System2Teach.

Additionally, courses from other faculties (e.g. language classes) have course lists. These can be found in the relevant building.
