The University and State Library in Fulda holds the deposit copy right for the Fulda area (former Fulda administrative region plus Hünfeld and the town of Fulda).

Publishers in this region, as well as writers and editors, who publish their works inside or outside of the book trade, are required by law to provide the library with a copy of the publication. This includes books, music, journals and newspapers in printed form.

The basis for this law is the Hessisches Pressegesetz (Hessen Press Law) from 23.06.1949 in the 12.12.2003 version (GVBl des Landes Hessen 2004 I p. 2) and the Verordnung über die Abgabe von Druckwerken (Directive about the Provision of Printed Works) from 12.12.1984 (GVBl des Landes Hessen I vom 10.1.1985). The HLB Fulda is one of Hessen’s five libraries with deposit copy right.
All deposit copies are listed in the Hessen bibliography.

The deposit copies form a large part of Fulda’s collection.
