Overview

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements are as follows: 

  1. a degree from a German university or other institution of higher education in the area of social sciences, cultural studies or law (politics, sociology, languages, etc.) or
  2. a degree from an equivalent foreign university or other institution of higher education abroad.
  3. certification of good proficiency in German and English
  4. a letter of intent explaining your academic and professional objectives (no longer than 2 pages) 
  5. a curriculum vitae (CV) 

Proof of Language Skills

In the degree programme ICEUS classes are taught in German and in English. Therefore good knowledge of both German and English is necessary. The academic regulations contain an exact definition of the required proof of proficiency in both languages. The following overview will help you understand the academic regulations. The Academic Regulations text applies in cases of doubt. If you find that your own particular situation is not reflected in the following overview, please get in touch with the program co-ordinator (Ilka Gersemann). 

ICEUS candidates usually find themselves in one of these three situations:

Situation 1: You have graduated in German from a German institution of higher education.

Situation 2: You have graduated from a foreign institution of higher education in a language other than German or English.

Situation 3: You have graduated in English or German from a foreign institution of higher education.

 

An explanation of the required proof of language skills for each of the three situations is as follows:

Situation 1:

You have graduated in German from a German institution of higher education.

You have to certify very good knowledge of English: a TOEFL iBT score of at least 79.*

Situation 2:

You have graduated from a foreign institution of higher education in a language other than German or English.

- You have to certify very good knowledge of one of the two languages and good knowledge of the other language.

Either: 

-         Very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of  German: 

TOEFL iBT score of at least 79 and TestDaF level 3 in all sections of the examination * 

Or:

-         Very good knowledge of German and good knowledge of English:

TestDaF level 4 in all sections of the examination and TOEFL iBT score of at least 61.*

Situation 3:

You have graduated in English or German from a foreign institution of higher education

-  If you have studied in German or English, this may be accepted as proof of your language skills in the respective language. 

 

* In exceptional cases, equivalent tests may be accepted.

The application deadline for winter semester 2014/2015 is the 15th of July 2014.
The programme starts in October 2014.

In order to apply, you need the following documents:

  • If you have undertaken a degree programme at a foreign higher education institution: 
    • Degree Certificate of your academic degree(s)*
    • Official translation into German language (exceptions for English, French and Spanish degree certificates
  • Proof of good German language skills
  • Proof of good English language skills
  • Motivation letter describing your academic and professional objectives (no longer than 2 pages)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).

*In case you can't provide your degree certificate by July 15, please hand in a transcript of records / list of modules you have completed including a preliminary average grade, issued by the registrar's office of your home university.

The application deadline is July 15, but we appreciate early applications in order to speed up the procedures after mid July.
