
To register in Fulda as a student in an exchange programme between your home university and Fulda University of Applied Sciences, please complete the Application Form and attach the following documents:

Your registration as an exchange student will take place during the first week of your stay in Fulda. Before you enrol you must pay the student service fee (semester included) of 214,02 €. During the orientation week we will assist you with making all necessary payments.
Application deadlines
June 1 for enrolment in the following winter semester (October - February)
December 1 for enrolment in the following summer semester (March - July)
After your application has been received and approved, we will send you an acceptance letter and an information packet.

Students with EU citizenship do not need a visa to enter Germany.
Citizens of Australia, South Corea or the U.S.A. do not need to apply for a visa in advance. However, they will have to apply for a residence permit at the Alien's Office within 3 months after arrival. The cost of the residence permit for a residence up to 12 months is 100 €.
All other exchange students have to apply for a visa at the German embassy in their home countries in order to study in Germany. After receipt of your Application for Registration as an Exchange Student, we will send you an official letter of invitation which will enable you to apply for the appropriate visa at the German Embassy. Please note that visa processing takes at least four weeks. After arriving in Fulda, you must register with the Alien Office of the City of Fulda. A tutor from the International Office will accompany you.
All students in Germany must have health insurance coverage in Germany. If you are a European student, your home country health insurance coverage may be valid in Germany. This must be documented by a special form from your home country health insurance scheme (European Health Insurance Card) which you must bring with you to Fulda. Private health insurances or travel insurances are not accepted.
If you come from a country outside the European Union, you must take out German compulsory medical insurance for the duration of your studies at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. The monthly insurance fee is EUR 80.
Accomodation
Students in Fulda generally live in privately operated residence halls or in residence halls administered by Student Services Giessen or in individual or shared apartments. The monthly rent for accommodations in Fulda, depending on location, size and standard, is generally between EUR 250 and EUR 350. Please send us the Accomodation Form if you would like the International Office to make a room reservation for you in the student's residence. These rooms are furnished and bed linen is provided.
Please note that it is customary in Germany to pay a security deposit. If you made a reservation in the student's residence, you must pay a deposit in the amount of 200 € when you receive the rental contract and the keys.

Cost of Living for Students
To cover the cost of living in Germany, you should calculate between 600 € and 700 € per month. This amount includes rent, food, health insurance and public transportation. Of course, ultimately your cost of living depends on your individual standard of living. Please take into consideration that the month of your arrival you will have to cover the extra costs for deposit and registration fee (approx. 400 € extra costs).
The Department of Social and Cultural Studies at Fulda University of Applied Sciences offers German language courses during the semester for international students. The exact dates and times can be found in the Catalogue of Classes or here. If you wish to attend an intensive German course before the start of the winter semester, you may register for the International Summer University which takes place each summer in Fulda.
Many students in Germany have part-time jobs in pubs, offices, shops, etc. EU citizens do not require special work permits.
International students are only allowed to work 90 days full-time or 180 days part-time (meaning 4 hours per day) throughout the duration of one year. In addition, students may have a job as a student assistant at the university. Mandatory internships may be completed as a part of the degree programme requirements (university certificate must be presented).

Arrival
The city of Fulda is ideally located for easy access. Fulda has two autobahn exits (A7 and A66) and is a major junction in the ICE network of German rail. The homepage of German Rail shows all trains to Fulda, with online ticket availability. One of Europe's principal international airports, Frankfurt Rhein-Main, is just an hour away by car and from there you have a direct train connection to Fulda every two hours.
International Office tutors will meet you at the railway station in Fulda on the day you arrive and will take you to the student's residence. If you come by car, we will also be happy to lead the way to your new home.
Orientation Week
The Orientation Week takes place prior to the semester. The orientation programme is meant to make your first semester in Fulda as stress-free as possible. Tutors will assist you to take care of necessary formalities, introduce you to life in Fulda and provide friendly advice and support with any problems that may arise. The International Office of Fulda University of Applied Sciences organises excursions for international students. The excursion programme offers visits to important historic sites or cities like Munich or Würzburg or scenic boat trips down the River Rhine past the Loreley.
