The term Alumni (la. Alere ~ to nourish) was formerly used for students who received time off during their studies. Today, the term is used for students who stay in contact with their university department after they have completed their studies.

The Friends of the Department of Applied Computer Science of the University of Applied Sciences Fulda e.V., in short FAI, is an alumni association with about 200 members. Primarily, it consists of former students of the department, IT-users from eastern Hessen as well as staff members and professors of the department.

Beside the personal members, institutions and companies also act as sponsoring members. The association has no commercial aims and is a non-profit organisation. It arranges meetings between representatives from the local industry and the department to work on interesting projects together, for example in the course of the placement semester.
