Degree Programme Health Promotion

Studying health promotion at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences is geared towards students who are genuinely interested in scientific- and health-related subjects, as well as in learning in an interdisciplinary and practical setting. Natural- and social sciences play an equally important role for a solid knowledge base. Having the ability to understand and work with English texts is of advantage. However, students who lack experience and practice in this area will be able to improve and gain sufficient practice and support throughout this course of study. Also, working towards the academic qualification in health promotion, students will receive the theoretical and practical tools to actively participate in quality development, assessment, evaluation, and in devising strategies for health promoting interventions.

Health promotion is an expanding field of professional opportunities, especially concerning

quality development. In other words, the potential that lies in the expansion of preventive and health-promoting efforts and programmes has yet to be exhausted. In the face of the demographic changes that lie ahead, as a sizeable part of the current workforce will be of age and therefore potentially less efficient. Therefore, health promoting interventions will become indispensable in order to maintain existing productivity levels. Thus, improving the health of the general population is an important contributing factor to keeping healthcare sustainable and affordable.

The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences allocates altogether thirty university places, with courses starting in autumn (winter semester) of each year. Part of the modules will be offered in cooperation with the degree programme Health Care Management. Through providing this opportunity, students will be able to gain new insights with respect to interdisciplinary points of view regarding health and disease.

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion, students may for instance continue on pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health. Having this methodical educational background and experience, pursuing a doctorate becomes a future educational option as well.
