Quality Management

The department has started to build up an it based and process orientated system of quality management. Process orientation means that the needs of students, employers and society have been taken into adjusted processes in order to avoid value-reducing and idle performances.

By optimizing the processes of the department, reducing human inter sections, assignments to persons in charge of the processes and defining checkable results as a basis for continuous improvements, the efficiency of the department will increase.

High performance means

  • adjusted processes of superior aims of the department
  • effective and efficient workflows in order to stop wasting a high percentage of workforce for administrative issues and also to concentrate on core activities of research, teachings and transfer of knowledge
  • rapid workflows in order to be able to offer fast performance and be more flexible by short lead times
  • best use of knowledge and resources

The map of processes is the element of the system of quality management, which forms the structure of it. It includes

  •  management processes (human resource development and appointments, administration, etc.)
  • managing resources processes (knowledge, budget, etc.)
  • realisation of core activities processes (development of courses of studies, teachings, etc.) with supporting processes (student advisory service, utilisation of the laboratories, etc.)
  • evaluation processes (evaluation of teachings, alumni surveys, etc.)

The processes are built up to a large extent. For further development of the “QM-System” it is necessary to define results of the processes of the department and establish key performance indicators. These indicators will show the efficiency of the processes. In the year 2005, in autumn time, the system of quality management has been completed to a large extent. The “PDCA-Zyklus” (“plan”, “do”, “check”, “act”) plays an important role in this system. The key points “plan”, “do”, “check”, “act” allow the realisation of continuous improvement.

The “QM-System” is accessible via the university’s internal network and the internet (password requested) for all professors and members of staff. When the processes have been accessed you can see the procedures, the person responsible for the process and activities in particular. Also you will be able to get all needed forms (workflows, forms, check lists, form letters, etc.) by clicking on the relevant link. Furthermore there is basic information about processes available via the process’ master data sheet, such as field of application, results and key data, which are used to check the results. Via a special symbol you can access the recent key data.
