Borrowing

A library card is required to borrow media. This can be acquired from both library locations after online registration.

  • The standard lending period is 28 days (for audio books, volumes from the EDZ, as well as bound journals from the Heinrich von Bibra Platz library, it is 14 days). It is possible to borrow 40 different items at once, including items from other libraries.
  • Borrowing takes place on both locations with self service machines.
  • The number of audio books that can be borrowed is limited to 10 at once.
  • Heinrich von Bibra Platz library: collections labelled “Ausleihe” and “Lesesaal” are freely accessible. It is not possible to borrow reference material over the weekend. Items from the closed stack collection and special locations like, for example DirZ, HssLS etc. need to be ordered online. Use the button “Bestellen” or “Elektronischen Leihschein” on the page in the online catalogue where you find the item. During the library’s regular opening hours the items can then be collected from the relevant lending desk at the next full or half hour.
Exception 1: No orders are processed between 1pm and 2pm
Exception 2: Holdings in auxiliary stacks. The auxiliary stacks are only visited once per week. These orders are available on the following Friday, from 9.30am. Ordered items will be held for you for 3 days.

Please note: at Marquardstrasse library there are self-service periods from Monday to Thursday, 6pm - 8pm, on Fridays, 3pm - 8pm and on Saturdays, 10am - 3pm. During these periods there are some limits to the level of services provided. Services not available are e.g. payment of fines, address changements or collection of new library cards.
